Landscape, Natural Character, and Visual Effects Assessment

Client: Pongoroa Land Company Ltd.

A subdivision to create eight rural titles from seven existing titles is proposed at Auroa Point on the Mahia Peninsula and a discretionary activity subdivision resource consent application has been submitted to the Wairoa District Council. Hudson Associates was requested to prepare a Landscape, Natural Character and Visual Effects Assessment that assesses the potential for adverse landscape, natural character and visual effects arising from the proposed earthworks and development of the subject site and mitigation measures that will be implemented to mitigate such effects.

This report addresses the landscape issues requested by Council and the effects arising from introducing eight additional dwellings and associated development into this landscape. The assessment is mindful of the scale of the development in the context of the broader landscape setting.

The application was granted in April 2008.
